This story has been collected by Kalum Dugdale, Jake Dixon and Isaac Dixon with the assistance of Sue Flowers, Green Close Studios and has been added to the site by Anne Wareing of the Lancs. Home Guard.

They travelled on bicycles or walked, the buses had dark blue lights.

She lived in a village not much bigger than Melling. Not many bombs dropped on Bolton village.

A bomb demolished 3 cottages in a row but hardly any body got hurt.
At night, planes dropped land mines in fields and a cow got killed.

Foods that were rationed were meat, cheese, sweets, butter, jam and tea.

They had egg powder and if you were lucky and you had a garden you could grow your own fruits and vegetables. Flowerbeds were dug up for allotments. People rented or owned them.
