My father was digging a big hole to bury a car in, to make an air-raid shelter. I'd seen a circus with a tight-rope walker, andd thought I can do that!

So I got on to the washing-line (I was about 7 at the time) but unfortunately the line broke and I fell off - right into the hole, which was full of rainwater. There was a lot of flooding in those days.

I was really popular as I shrunk my school clothes, and the hole had to be filled in.
