About my Grandmother, Mary Wainwright
Canadian citizen, but of British parents
She volunteered to t 2nd World War, came to England in 1940/41 to Military Hospital. She was in the Royal Canadian Medical Corp. as a nurse.
Her Father, Mother, Brother and Sister were English. My Great Grandfather was transferred to Canada by the Church as he was a Reverend, so he went with his family, and my Grandmother Mary Wainwright was born in Canada.
When England went to war my Great Grandfather, said if he was not blind he would come back to England to fight for his country, and so my Grandmother volunteered.
A year after being in England my Grand mother was transferred with other nurses to a Military Hospital in South Africa and other’s to Salisbury — Rhodesia (now Harare — Zimbabwe).
She Left the Army mid 1943 as she met my Grandfather in Johannesburg on a break.
My Grandfather was Portuguese and lived in Mozambique.
After they got married they lived in Mozambique.
