At the end of part three, we left George enjoying a week's well earned leave in Cairo.

Mar 5th

Arrived back at 1 Company Bug Bug from leave and told the section was going back to Barce for a refit and one month's rest.

Mar 18th

Left Bug Bug for Mersa Matru; first hop on our way back, 105 miles.

Mar 19th

Left Mersa Matru for Amerya, 175 miles.

Mar 20th

Left Amerya for Mena, 120 miles, completing 400 miles in 3 days by trucks.

Mar 22nd

Started 3 days leave in Cairo

Mar 26th

Back at Mena camp from leave, in charge of party. Mena is in cosy reach of Cairo, not a bad camp; have nothing to do at all.

Apr 14th

Made up to Lance Corporal

Apr 21st

Our part has come to an end, we have had 6 weeks together. Left Mena 6am for El Daba, 220 miles.

May 1st

Left El Daba for Bug Bug, 192 miles

May 2nd

Left Bug Bug for Cupuzza, work started right away working on the railway route west of Cupuzza

May 12th

Moved up the railway another 20 miles near Gambut, weather hot.

May 13th

Moved to Gambut building 4 and a half miles M.A.L., 2 days for the job, bad sand storm.

May 17th

Moved to 91 Sub.Acria building 6 miles off M.A.L.

May 23rd

Moved back to Gambut, building 7 miles of pole lines

May 25th

Bombed and machine gunned for 10 hours, starting at 9pm and ending at about 7am

May 26th

With an attack of 6 ME109s, we were all very lucky no-one was hurt and no damage was done. Everyone diving in trenches tonight ready for another attack.

May 28th

Still being machine gunned at night

May 31st

Bombed and machine gunned now for 8 nights running but still no-one hurt and no damage done. Moved from this place at about 2pm and was not sorry. Went up the Knightsbridge side of El Adam. 5 minuted after arriving saw 3 ME109s brought down by anti-aircraft fire and one damaged.

Jun 1st

Started to repair pole line route from El Adam to knightsbridge

Jun 3rd

Bad dust storm today. 9pm, told to pack and move to Gambut

Jun 4th

Bombed and machine gunned early this morning

Jun 7th

Not bombed or machine gunned now for three days, awakened at 2am and told to move at 2.30am. Left here and made for Tobruk; still dark, travelling bad, stopped a few miles outside Tobruk for the rest of the night. Tobruk getting bombed heavily and planes flying over our heads.

Jun 8th

Slept night in an old dug-out, awakened at 7.45am to find that rest of Section had left us behind. No breakfast, caught Section up just before going into Tobruk.

Jun 9th

Much air activity, moved camp once again just off the Derna road.

Jun 15th

Left Tobruk 5am for Cupuzza, arrived 6pm. terrible ride across the desert - speed averaged 7 m.p.h.

Jun 16th

Left Cupuzza for Bug Bug for 2 days rest and swimming

Jun 19th

Left Bug Bug for Bagush

Jun 26th

Left Bagush for 1st Armoured Division 30 miles out of Mersa Matru
