In about 1940 the bombing in London really started, we had an Anderson Shelter in the back garden and when there was a raid, my Mother, Father and myself and also any other people at the same lodging house, would go to the shelter. When you got down the steps there were two benches without backs and I would fall asleep with my back against the shelter, when my Mother realised I was asleep, she would wake me and tell me off!
As if a bomb had gone off close by, the vibrations of the metal sides could have caused the same damage.
