August 1st 1941 Friday
Father much better, went to Gidea Park yesterday, they are quite well. Hope to help in the Canteen on Sunday at Kings X Stn. Very cold to-day. Wonder if we shall hear from Mother. I have suggested I bring her back Aug 30th. Must remember to pick lavender to send off to Bognor to-night.

August 2nd 1941 Saturday
Arrived at the office early. Mr Lewis brought his son, Michael, up again, he spent the day with me last Wednesday. We had a grand time ! Much wine!!!

August 3rd 1941 Sunday
Cooked lovely dinner of lamb, new potatoes, marrow and mint sauce- it was delicious! Caught the 2pm Green Line, arrived Kinds X 3.15pm. Had a marvelous time at the canteen, didn鈥檛 leave until 9.5pm! arrived home 10.45pm. did my feet ache or did they? Must go again, have never seen so many cups and saucers and sausages!!!!

August 4th 1941 Monday (Bank Holiday)
Got up early. took Dinky Dhu in the Park. Cooked lovely dinner with beans from the garden. Mr & Mrs Sharp came with Mrs Kent to tea. They picked an awful lot of black c. I picked some rasps, black c & goosegogs served with custard. They all said what a lovely tea. Poured with rain about 6 pm and all the evening. They left for home 8.30 pm . Heard from Mother, she wants me to arrange to go up this weekend 9th Sat and come back Tuesday 12th which I hope to do.

August 12th 1941 Tuesday
Had a marvelous weekend up North. Brought Mother back with me. We arrived at Kings X in good time, only 5 mins late. Father met us at Chandler's Corner at 2.45 pm

August 15th 1941 Friday
Edwin telephoned me to say he would meet me at Barking 5 pm! Home on 48 hrs We arrived home. Mother not too well.

August 16th 1941 Saturday
Went up to Town to celebrate, Edwin met me 12.30 pm, went straight to the Coliseum and saw "Me and My Girl" - had a box! The show was lovely, screamingly funny. Then we went on to Marble Arch Corner House for tea, then into the Regal to see Anton Walbrook and Sally Gray in "Dangerous Moonlight" Wonderful film. Eventually arrived home at 1 am

August 17th 1941 Sunday
Edwin visited his relatives. Mr & Mrs Sharp came to tea and very kindly took Edwin to Victoria to catch the 9,18 pm

August 23rd 1941 Saturday
Major, Miss W & I spent the whole night (Friday 22nd) from 9 pm to 7.45 am at the Canteen at Kings X Stn !!! Have arrived at the office completely ---- this morning. It seems weeks ago now!! We were terribly busy practically the whole night long, had a rest from 1.15 am to 2.15 am ! Some very rushed periods 3 am to 4 am We all felt low, but revived later, its a grand experience.

August 24th 1941 Sunday
Had a lovely "deep sleep" when I arrived home from 3pm - 7.15 pm! Felt much refreshed when I awoke. Mr & Mrs Sharp came out to tea. Tried some of my famous jam - delicious for tea

August 26th 1941 Tuesday
Went to Regal and saw Bing Crosby in "The Road to Zanzibar" very good indeed. Hope to spend the weekend with Hawkey and the day with Edwin on Sunday

August 29th 1941 Friday
Terribly disappointed - weekend cancelled! Wrote off to Edwin Tuesday, then lo and behold Hawkey says I can go after all but its too late to let Edwin know. Haven't heard all this week from him.

August 30th 1941 Saturday
Beautiful day... Am popping down to Stanford this afternoon so hope it keeps like this.

August 31st 1941 Sunday
Had a lovely time at Stanford, went for a delightful walk with Auntie, found four mushrooms! Arrived home about 9.10 pm. I took Mother out this afternoon just as far as the farm. Mr & Mrs Sharp arrived. We all had a cup of tea over the road. Maddie & Mrs R came too. Mother not too well, very pale.
September 1st 1941 Monday
Marvelous weather. Mother went to bed early. Have not heard from Edwin.

September 2nd 1941 Tuesday
Spent a very pleasant evening at Barking. Was awakened by heavy gunfire at 1,40 am no siren though. Beautiful weather very hot Late English summer.
