When my wife, Peggy Dodd, was living at home with her parents in Oakfield Park Road, Wilmington, they had an air-raid shelter at the base of a fir tree.
On one occasion, during an air raid they had to spend the night in the shelter. When they came out in the morning after the 'all clear' there was a cannister of incendiary bombs hanging by its chord from the fir tree above the shelter. So they had to send for the Bomb Disposal squad to clear the cannister.
Had it gone off they'd have been roasted alive.
