Christmas 1944 in a little village called Stramproy in the Netherlands. The weather was cold en it snowed. A very social Catholic British soldier asked the mother of the farm, which was used as office, communication centre, kitchen and dinnerhall for officers, wether he was allowed to go with the family to the Nightmass in the church of the village. He had to go to the front after Christmas. Ofcourse this liberator was welcome to celebrate this Mass, together with the family. After the Mass he told the mother he had a presentiment. He had the bad feeling going to die during these actions. He asked the farmers wife to save some personel properties: a picture of his mother, a younger sister, and a relic-purse. He was afraid that these properties should be damaged during the actions. 'It was very emotional' one of the daughters of the family (12 years old in 1944) remembers. 'My mother and the soldier cried'. The soldier went to the front and never came back for his properties. The mother died and her children forgot the names of the soldier. Also his army-unit in which he served are unknown. In spite of these handicaps they will try to find the soldier's relatives and give his properties back.
Writer's comments:
The family asked me wether there is a possibillity to find these relatives. I promised to try and made a website of the story and published the pictures on it. The adress is: About links. Attention for this site is drawn by mentioning the adress in 'Lost Trail' sections of websites in England. Your editors may use this website and everything on it to edit a story on your site. It should be marvellous if we could find the family with your help.
With kind regards from Jan Schonkeren
