Iwas an able seamn in the Royal navy ,serving on H.M.S Ivanhoe (destroyer).For Dunkirk add Death ,Destruction,despair,Demoralised,and Dismemberment.These were the things we had to face up to.The air attacks of the Luftwaffe were impossible to ward off,we hadnot the guns or firepower to put up any resaistance ,the Gun I served on was a 4.7 inch and was put out of action early before we started to load troops,we who had no action station were given the job of going around the wounded dead and dying troops collecting their i.d discs and paybooks giving them to the officer in charge.This task still stays with me today as i shall never forget the sights and sounds and smells of that hellish day.The air attacks were relentless and the cannon fire and machine gun attacks
