I lived by the sea in Western Dorset during the war years. I was young when we moved there from Weymouth.
My most vivid memory is of looking up at the evening sky on June 5th and watching the sky blacken with all the gliders on their way to France just seventy miles away.

My sister and I had made the acquaintance of two young American soldiers from the Big Red 1 Division stationed all around us. They both were in the D-Day landings. My sister's friend whom she later married won the DSC and my soldier friend whom I later married received the Bronze Star.We have been married sixty years this June 1.
