I thought it would be a good idea to join the Land Army as all my family were farmers. During the first month we were treated like slaves, even to eating at a separate table and at tea break we had to sit separately. I left my first place after a month. For a long time I was in charge of 80 cows at my second posting, and did all their milking and feeding. I moved on to do general farming towards the end of ther war, with horse drawn ploughs. The last place had beef herds and arable so I did ploughing and sugar beet 'knocking'. I was demobbed in 1946 and got a job in an estate office.
