At the end of the last chapter, George's Section was the worse for wear after their weeks of toil....

Oct 14th

Back at Liwo for a rest, got 3 days

Oct 17th

Started on a 200 mile trip back to Charing Cross and Bagush

Oct 18th

Moved back to Road to Rome, changing poles; killed many snakes

Oct 23rd

Moved to Gwerawle test point, recieved two parcels from home and at long last had a good rest.

Nov 2nd

Recieved transport and moved up to Berani

Nov 6th

All ready for the push to start, cannot be long now.

Nov 8th

Moved to Bug Bug making good route from Berani to 11 miles out of Sullum

Nov 20th

Sullum still holding out after much bombing and shelling, cannot work any further with route until Sullum falls.

Dec 10th

Moved round by Safafi to Sidi Omar and built a route through to Bardia Tobruk road, this gives us two lines back to our rear.

Dec 21st

Moved to El Adam, stayed here one night; could see Tobruk being bombed

Dec 22nd

Moved to Derna side of Tobruk, much work to be done on the Tobruk / Derna route

Dec 25th

Worked up to 4pm today, had a better dinner than last Christmas. Very heavy rain.

Jan 3rd

Moved to Derna, bungalows to live in, changed clothes, had a good bath, hot water and plenty of it.

Jan 4th

Derna bombed, almost us - only 50 yards away. Had ghari from the market, almost run down. Brigadier and I had to push it up the hill.

Jan 6th

Moved to Marteno, bombed on the way, no one hurt. Houses to live in here, shot wild duck, stole eggs off the locals, had our own tank (Italian) much repair work, very cold, frost and a little snow.

Jan 15th

Moved to Barce on signal Office Staff working test panel, good job, no hard work but long hours.

Jan 25th

"Black Joe" bombed us again, put all the lines out working back to Derna

Jan 27th

Got our kits packed once again for a quick move back

Jan 29th

Bengazi cut off. Sgt. Faulkner, Signalman Bradley, Signalman Clark and Driver Blackburn lost our prisoners.

Jan 30th

Moved out of Barce and nightfall got to Marawa, then told to go back 7 miles from Barce to cut the pole lines for the 4th Infantry Batallion. Line cut 11pm, then started back to Marawa for a few hours sleep, arrived back 2am. rain fell most of the time.

Jan 31st

Moved towards Tobruk, stayed the night at Bomba with H.G.

Feb 1st

Moved back to Tobruk, slept with 20 Line Sec.

Feb 2nd

Moved to Sullum, building route through from Bug Bug to Sullum.

Feb 8th

Moved to Gambut, 19km from Bardia to repair lines damaged by bombs

Feb 21st

First day in shorts, but still cold in the mornings and night. Black Joe bombed us 5am

Feb 25th

Started 7 days leave in Cairo. 230 miles trip, had a good time.
