I was in the t.a in Ipswich, I was in the 58th field regiment royal artillery, and was then transferred to coast artillery, the 515 coast regiment royal artilerly in october 1939, in that time, I served in Langard Ford, felixstone , until the summer of 1941. Attended courses in radar in landidno, then I had three months at the polytechnic in london in 1942, then went to Landidno and became a technical instructor in fire control (tifc). Radar was so secretive, that I had to go under another occupation so no one would know. Having passed my course, I went to Dover, and then in Septermber, 1942, I went to Plymouth, Hamoaze House which was then corps headquarters, we were then responsible for all the costal radar stations on the west coast of Devon. For me, it was quite exciting, and we used to travel to all the stations and back again. In July 1943, I waa on embarcation leave before travelling overseas. I had 6 weeks on a troop ship, morton bay, it took 6 weeks to get to Derbuarn, South Africa, we then went on a two weeks voyage to Bombay, India. Joined the staff of the coast artillery school, in Colaba, Bombay and I was there for about a year and was then transferred to an Indian Regiment, stationed a t worliy, came home on leave to England for 1 month in september of 1945 during which I got married. returned to india in Bombay, returned to England in april in 1946 for demoabilisation.
