My Mother and I lived in Catford and went on the bus into Lewisham to do some shopping, it was the time of the V-Ones. We arrived and were thinking of where to go when suddenly some V-Twos came over us and started falling. Most people went into Woolworths for shelter, but my mother was not too keen. Woolworth was round the corner from us, a man had a stall with china and he said, we will all get under my stall. One of the bombs hit Woolworths and a lot of people died. The noise and the blast was very frightening. We stayed there for a while, when we got out, all his china was gone — not a sign of it! We went home as quick as we could.
In the 1980s there was a piece in Telegraph on a Saturday saying that after all these years they had put a plaque up to commemorate what had happened.
