This story was submitted to the Peoples War website by Rod Sutton on behalf of Joan Sutton, the author, and has been added to the site with her permission. The author fully understood the sites terms and conditions.

My Father and Brother-in-law were very serious men in all ways until one evening word went round that the Royal Hart pub had a delivery of drink in. They were fine when they went out but were very merry all the way home. We watched them arrive thinking they were barrels of fun playing ‘horse and carts’. One was down with his hands on the ground while the other was holding his legs. It took them two hours to do a twenty minute walk.

Another time we were all rushing for the shelter when we heard a Doodle Bug chasing us. My sister who was pregnant was ahead of everybody and they fell into the shelter on top of her, I fell into a rose patch, luckily the baby was alright.

This story was submitted by my Mother sixteen days before her death and was entered onto the website on the day after her funeral.
