My friend and I were walking along Cambridge Road. The road behind the ‘White Cliffs Hotel’ on Dover Sea Front close to Dover docks.

We heard an airplane in the distance and turned around to see what it was — theirs or ours. At the same time we heard a rat a tat and we dived into a door way.

The next moment we saw the bullets hitting the ground, streaming up the road up towards the ‘Monument’. Then the roar of the low flying aircraft. Whose was it? Yes it was a German!
