I lived in Port Erin from 1936 ... and I went to sea in the merchant navy in 1939 ... we had just six months of peace which was very nice ... and then the war started.
Eventually I came home in August 1940, on leave ... and I met a very nice young lady ... sitting on the prom in Port Erin. She was an internee. She told me at the time that she was 16, and then later it turned out she was only 14 at the time! We corresponded throughout the war.
Eventually, after the war, the internees were released and I met up with her in Leicester ... and there we were married in 1946.
