I remember growing up on the Isle of Man during the war and having internees staying at the house.
I remember two ladies in particular ... Guisla and Ezolda ... they were both very good at painting ... and they would try to teach me how to colour and paint.
Another family that stayed near to us was the Wurhauf. Mrs Wurhauf wasn't a very good cook - and I can still hear my mother saying: "Have you burnt the toast again, Mrs Wurhauf?"
My uncle had to apply for permits every time he wanted to visit Port Erin from the UK.
We had a shoe shop in Port Erin and we sold a lot of shoes to the internees on the Island.
