The day before war broke out we all got evacuated to Chester, and we came home the next day because we didn鈥檛 like it. It was 1940, December, we lived in flats in Liverpool, we had a great big shelter and it got bombed. I was sitting next to me Mam, it was a big family, we got out but me Mam got killed. And the lad who lived next door; Frank, they had quite a big family too, and he was sitting opposite; we got out together but, his sister also got killed in the by some concrete.
I didn鈥檛 see Frank anymore, he got called up for the army when he was 18, and was in the army till he was 21. Then I met him at a dance hall, and we started going out together. In 1950, we got married.
