I was just 5 when War broke out. I lived in Manchester. We had to go under the Cathedral at Manchester. We were near Strangeways and I was always scared the prisoners would get out and kill us all.
We were ready for the air raids. We had air raid suits. They were made of blanket material, you stepped into them and zipped them up, they also had a hood. My brothers would not leave the dog, so they put wheels on an orange box and a blanket over the dog and pulled him with us. My mother was always ready for the siren. She would have sandwiches made. My dad was an air raid warden. He also used to help at the prison.
