"There aren't many original Eastchurch families now," said Jeff Reveley. I.m here 'cause my father came down here in the First Workd War - stationed at Shurland Hall.
My mother was in the land army - they met and got married and everyone stayed down here. It was quite a big family really.
My brother Dennis, now 85 years old, was in the merchant navy - in the war, on one occasion he sailed in a convoy of seventeen boats from Newfoundland to Liverpool. Nine of them got sunk on the way over - when they got here he was sent on leave.
He came down here and it was late, so he thought he'd get on the Sheppey Light Railway. You could never get a bus in Sheerness - not after about nine o'clock and taxis were non-existent. He'd heard these RAF blokes talking - so he thought, I'll do that - I'll get on the Sheppey Light and walk up to the village.
He gets off the train a Queenborough, jumps on the Sheppey Light. He chucks his bag in and along comes the guard - "you can't get in here mate, " he says, "servicemen only!"
And he'd just come across the Atlantic!
