Although I lived in London when war broke out, I was evacuated on three occassions.this story is about the differing attitudes of people towards evacuee's.First stop was Soham Cambs. the people here were brilliant, my little sister and I were treated as part of the family although they had three children of their own.Alas the family moved back to Northampton, so we were sent home to London. Next stop was a small village in Hertfordshire. The attitude here was totally hostile, we were made to stand outside the back door until meal time, made to to various household chores. In fact we were treated so badly I can still see us now after all this time, standing outside that back door in all weathers.
