With my mother and my younger brother and sister, I left Morden Park for Wrexham. Our host was very nice, although I did get the cane at school for being two minutes late on the first morning! We enjoyed walking through Erddig Park, now a National Trust property.
We stayed in Wrexham for three months before returning to London. Our home had the windows blown out by a bomb blast. I slept very soundly at that time as I did not wake up, although my head was covered in fragments of glass. We had given up sleeping in the Anderson shelter in the garden as it was very damp.
The war did not worry us much. I had wonderful freedom running through the local fields and woods, cycling to places like Wimbledon Common, climbing trees and damming the brook.
