Hello My name is Sabrina (betty short for eliabeth) Morrissey and I am searching for anyone who can tell me about my grandfathers war journal. I unfortunately do not have the journal its self but soon plan to obtain it if I am able to do so but I do happen to have the entire journal photocopied for reference. I do not have many names to supply but what ones are there I will omit later on. My grandpa was Robert Hall he was part of the royal canadian regiment second division I believe. He was taken at Dieppe by the german army along with many other men to a pow camp. What I want to do is send a copy of a poem written in it titled simply :DIEPPE. 19th AUG.1942 to any remaining soldiers from the camp where they and my grandfather were held. I remember reading the poem in school when I was twelve I am now 24. I have always been curious about the other men who wrote and joked and drew pictures and who placed the german mark in the back of its cover theese men could have been his only comfort in the world save for the thoughts of his beloved wife and home and I want to know what passed between them. I was far to young at the time to truely know what that journal meant but now I know its a part of canadian history and it should be shared but before I share it with anyone else in the world further I would have the remaining men of his regiment and pow camp to have it first to hold and to remember again. The one drawing in the journal that I absolutely love is a german officer in spiked boots ordering a man to come with him cuffs in hand and the soldier oposite to him with his hand out-streatched in the hile hitler salute saying: NINE! Its things like that that need to be shared with theese men. Here are the names I was able to get out of the war-journal This man was the writer of the poem Dieppe but it does not state his full name (unless he really was named slim):(SLIM)Hudson-Calgary regt. 2nd.Div., A J.W Bouch, an R.d. Brunion, an F.g. Cleawley. I am sorry but there was no reference as to where theese men where from but if any of this tale stirs up a memory or a though a glimpse even please say so because I would love for this great piece of history to be shared with those men who still remain. Thankyou.
