Margaret brought up in Yeovil 11 years of age when war ended when Margaret was 8 left school one day and had arranged to meet mum at Yeovil High St, Woolworth and a bomb had dropped and Margaret was told by Warden not to go up High Street. Margaret was worried because her Mum was meeting her there and she was very scared for her Mum. Fortunately Margaret's mum arrived home safe. Len lived at Knowle West and been allocated a house in Barnstaple Rd at the bottom of the garded was an Anderson Shelter. Each night Len's mum went out to the shelder and lit the terracota candle and placed another on top which would heat the shelter. They looked forward to going to the shelter because it was nice and warm. Len's Dad worked on Hills Dock Yard, Bristol - Reserved Occupation (otherwise known as the heavy mob!). At night Len's Dad was a ARP patrolman carrying a tin and a bucket of sand. Wartime was Len's first introduction to Digestive Biscuits. Fire bomb hit house at No 10 Barnstaple Rd - damage was a perfect circle which noone could believe to this day, where bomb went through eve - no one was hurt. Len and brother evacuted to Tiverton, Cove. Billeted with local farmer. Had many experiences with a religious family. Was sent back home because considered naughty. Then lived with family in Bedminster. Len always remembers Land mine dropped in Willway St Bedminster caused most damage. A lady was blown over railway arch and survived.
