My dad was in the Navy, he used to bring bits and pieces home, like bananas. I tried to eat one with the skin on. He brought a coconut home, we played football with it for a week before we knew what it was, we thought it was a football; a hairy football. My dad was on the HMS Capetown, he had a parrot, he wouldn鈥檛 leave it, the ship got torpedoed by Italians. My dad was worried about the parrot and went back for it, releasing it. When he was swimming round with the other survivors, it landed next to him calling his name.
