During the Liberation of Paris, my Uncle Tom was in the leading tank as the Allies drove into the city of Paris.
At home in the village, the local cinema showed the event on the Pathe News. Several of my Grandparents friends were at the cinema and saw my Uncle Tom on that news reel. They told my Grandparents that they had seen him, knowing that my Grandparents had had no news and were anxious as to whether he was alive or dead.
My Grandparents were thrilled to hear this news. It being a small community with every one knowing everyone, the cinema projectionist actually ran the newsreel again at a private showing just for my Grandparents.
