This is Pat Humphrey's story as told to Jacqui Brown. The author is aware of the implications of adding her story to the website.

Pat's father Bernard worked for Courage Brewery during the war. At the height of the blitz Bernard would lead the family with a procession of mattresess on prams to sleep in the cellar at the brewery to keep them safe. The children found it a great adventure getting together with other families and spending the night in the brewery. The downside was everyone had to get up at four o'clock in the morning to let the workers in for the day.
