I was born in Seaton and when I was about six or seven my sister and I were playing in Sidmouth Street (now called Harepath Road), when a bomb dropped in Highwell Road.

I was knocked out and taken to the church hall where all the injured were taken care of. Of course my mother was frantic about it, as indoors we had an Anderson Shelter and we should have been in there but there was no time. Luckily my sister was fine and just covered in dust and dirt. A much sadder thing was that two girls who were evacuated for safety to Highwell Road, were unfortunately both killed.
