Lt A D Harper 53 Airlanding Light Regiment (RA) Worcestershire Yeomanry, 1945
My father, 302830 Lt A.D, Harper was in the 210/53 Airlanding Light Regiment RA (Worcestershire Yeomanry) for this operation. He died a few years ago but did leave all his letters from that period and a few snaps.
Going through the letter I put them in datewise order and what stands out is that in January and February 1945 he wrote lots (at least 15) per month, whereas for March there are only 3 letters - he was obviously quite busy!
His letter of 23 March is certainly written with other prospects in mind - however he was certainly one of the lucky ones and went on to meet the Russians on the Baltic near Wismar and then on to India and Palestine before being demobbed in 1947.
THere are only a few other names I remember relating to this period, Peter Stoop (later I think a Major in the TA and who also went to Suez), Alex. Laird (Lackie)and Iain Lamont (Dad's best man and still with us)
