I joined the Wrens. I was in the plymouth command stationed in various southern ports as well as London. When I was in Salcombe, Devon the man who became my husband, 2 years later was always of Centary guard. He would shine his torch on me as I came in late, after dealing with the romances, and say he would report me. But he never did. In fact he was always asking me to go out with him, and I wouldn't! I was too busy going to dances, meals, sing songs at the Naffi, not short of escorts, until we were all moved to Exmouth. Then at long last I started going out with Bill. In 2 months time we got engaged. We married in February 1944, and soon after I became pregnant, so I watched the VE celebrations pushing the pram. My first born. I had another child later, Trevor and Alan. We came to Manchester and fell in love with the place!
