I am Swiss, and my story is set in Switzerland in a small village called Nussbaumen, quite close to the German border I was just a little girl during the war. My older sister got hurt by one of the Swiss military horses and suffered a bad injury to her leg.
The military was very much liked in our little village because in the evening after all the soldiers were fed and watered, there was always left over soup and chocolate drinks which the villagers could take home with them. It was always very delicious. We also had rationing in Switzerland.
In 1942 or 3 a German plane accidentally dropped a bomb onto a bridge on the river Thur. Which was near where we had moved and were now living At night we had to have our windows blacked out. Swiss crosses were painted on the roofs of houses to show the planes that they were flying over neutral Switzerland.
After the war we removed those painted crosses from the roofs. Especially parents, we were well pleased that the war was over.
