This story was submitted to the People's War website by Paul Ridyard for GMR Action desk on behalf of James Mitchel and has been added to this site with his permission. The author is fully aware the site's terms and conditions.

I was born in 1911, I was 29yrs old and working as a draughtsman during the war in Glasgow. At the time of the Clydebank blitz I was staying in a suburb, fairly high up above Glasgow, and I remember watching the bombs dropping on Clydebank.

The following the day when I returned to work at the firm, P & W MacLELLAL, we had serveral calls for assistance from various factories around the area.

An outstanding point in memory is that, after the blitz, the transport system in glasgow was so good I could board a tram in Clarkstone, travel 7 miles into Glasgow centre and then to the outskirts of Clydebank.
