I used to work 7.30am to 5.00pm in a full time job and then do 2 nights a week in the control room of the Moira fire station from 6.30pm to 6.30am. We had to walk a long way between job and fire station but learned to take the lack of sleep and distance in our stride.

Cards was the most popular way of passing the time, especially Newmarket, where winning a few coppers added interest to what could be a long night!
