I was eight years old when the war broke out, Dad was in the RAF and my mother, being Maltese lived in Malta with my other four brothers and myself. The morning of the first air raid, everyone was screaming and running in the street with bombs dropping everywhere, nobody knew what was happening or where to go.
I remember, a man calling out at us 鈥淐ome and shelter in my garage the war has stared, they are bombing the dockyard!鈥 The dockyard gate was a mile or so from our home, from that day on for about four years it was of course 鈥榟ell鈥. There was a shortage of food, hiding for most of the time underground 鈥 dark and damp. However, prayers and love and care of parents and friends saw us through.
