We'd all been to Greenlane Cinema on a Saturday night.
We had no bedtime in those days — you would stay up until your dad came back if he was out.
We had to walk home and I was on my dad's shoulders.
When we got home we went to bed.
The next day my grandma on my dad's side of the family came round.
She said "Darlings, I am so glad you're alright — the bombs have been dropped."
Dad said they had been no bombs and it was just rumours.
Grandma said that there had been bombing at the end of Fairfax Road.
"Get your shoes on" my dad said.
We went to have a look.
There were barricades up.
My dad put me down and went over.
The bomb had killed about seven people.
There had been no air raid warnings — it was a lone bomber.
