I remember my mother being indominable about going shopping and we set off to Oxford Street - I didn't like the tube, "can't we go to the shops on the bus", "yes" said mother, so we went to Walthamstow. My father was hanging over the gate. "Where do you think you've been?" - Oxford Street was bombed!
