Born in Coventry on 16 Aug 1935 and started school 1939-40 at St. Mary's on Hood St. and Raglan St. The school was bombed in November Blitz. We were evacuated to Stockton near Southam my brother and I. We then went to Wheatley St. school and later South St. school. Our neighbourhood was full of factories like BTH, Singer, Morris etc. and there was lots of bombed out houses around including my Grandmothers house in Alma St. We lived in Hood St. and had an Anderson Shelter in the garden, but we normally went to the BTH shelters which were underground. I remember the streets covered in glass and slates in the mornings.
