I was married in 1941. My husband was in the Navy and posted at Portsmouth. I stayed with my mother in Sawston. We had 2 children come and stay with us as evacuees. They were lovely children and we enjoyed having them to stay. They stayed for about 3 years and went to school in Sawston.

I worked in Wakefield’s glove factory and had my first baby in 1943 — my parents were an enormous help to me. My father worked at the Paper Mill in Sawston.

Overall, my wartime memories were of happy times with my family and special times with my husband when he was on leave.
