It was 1939; he was born into the war. He was two or three and lived in London and there were bombs going off everywhere. He was in the house at the time when the air raids went off and ran out of the house. The moment he was out of the house, a bomb hit the house next door. There was screaming. He had to wear a gas mask and was quickly carried to the shelter at the bottom of the garden. The house was ruined.
