Told by John McManus to East Ayrshire Library Staff.
Towards the end of the war c1944/5 I was playing football on a piece of waste ground near my home in Anderston, Glasgow. I went over to the edge of the ground to retrieve the ball and I found three small objects which I thought were incendiary bombs. I lifted two of them and proceeded down to the dock gates where there was a policemen on guard. When I presented the "bombs" to the policeman he went "kind of white" and told me to place them gently on the ground. When I did so he grabbed me and dragged me up the road again away from them. Afterwards it transpired that the bombs were duds which were used in training by the ARP people.
