I heard a talk here in Wolverhampton by the retired meteorologist Ian McCaskill, describing how his National Service with the RAF led him into meteorology and ultimately into broadcasting for the 大象传媒.
I told him that I had been an RAF meteorologist 60 years ago as a member of the WAAF. He found this very interesting as I could recall some of the things we were trained to do. Obviously computer technology has changed the work considerably, but some routines are still the same.
I served on Fighter Command Training Stations all over the country, north, south, east and west, working a revolving shift system which covered 24 hours, seven days a week. I did not serve abroad as Mr McCaskill did, nor did I go on to be a well-loved figure on television.
