The house at 157 Avenue de Tervveren after the bombing
de TervureBrussels 10th may 1940, 4.00am.
A loud noise woke us up, our house was shaking, little did we know the Germans had dropped 4 bombs on railway bridges, missing all of them. One bomb had fallen on the house of great friends 700 meters from our home (see photo) that family had 12 children....and by a miracle only one son, Gillas de Liedekerke-Beaufort, age 14 was killed, 3 were wounded quite badly. What a shock when no war had been declaired...and little we knew that at the same hour our father was wounded in Maaseik frontier on the River Maas or Meuse as he was in charge of the Bridge.
