In the war they called up 30 people from the Post Office to be attached to the Fleet Air Arm for special duties on electrical communications at the airfields in Ceylon and India.

It was an eye-opener for me and I saw how the other half of the world lives, especially in India. I saw all the sufferings there but I loved the place.

We started off as civilians and ended up as Petty Officers. I enjoyed the experiende and the comradeship. I have always enjoyed military life and if I had been single I would have stayed in.

When I was called up a mate of mine Alex Brown was also called up and we met on the tube station and became very great pals. I kept in touch with him until he died and I still keep in touch with his daughter Wendy Nice.

Being 94 I can also remember WWI and I have a memory from when I was six and I saw the Zeppelin brought down in North London between Cufley and Potters Bar. That still sticks in my memory probably more than my WWII memories.
