Born in August 1938, I was 12 months old when the war started. At around three years of age, I recall hearing sirens and being dragged out of my cot with a green blanket, and being put in an air raid shelter.
I remember the V.E celebrations, my dad was an electrician who worked for Grayson Rollo; a ship repairing company. Being bombed out of Rose Vale, (I don’t know if the road is still there), we went to live in Fazakerly.
Aged two or three, I was evacuated to Wales with my mum, but we were only away a short time…
My granddad thought that Mum and Dad should stay together and when Mum came back with me it caused an argument as my Dad thought we were all safe in Wales.
