I remember the plane crashing into the top of Cottingwood Lane, near St George鈥檚 Hospital. The boys in my class at Goosehill had all been up to the top of Cottingwood to get a piece of the plane and it turned out that a lot of us were after glass to keep as a souvenir. I happened to see this piece of metal and I picked it up and it was the registration plate for the plane. I took it down to school and showed it around the class. Our Headmaster, William Raitt, came in and said that the plane had been picked up by the RAF and they were taking the plane away and there was a part missing. The plane had stopped outside the police station near Carlisle Park and they had heard that someone had the number plate in the school yard. The Headmaster came into the classroom and asked who had it. I owned up and they took it off me and gave it back to the RAF with the plane wreckage.
