Stuart and Lloyds, Corby, Northants put up a ‘smokescreen’ which as intended to cover the steel-works when air-raids were expected. Although the steelworks sustained some damage, the German bombers couldn’t always see their target and instead dropped bombs on the Dam wall of the Eyebrok Reservoir (3 miles NW of the steel works), one night letting go their bombs at the Rockingham Railway Station in a line of 4 towards the Dam. One of the bombs did not explode and was exploded about 2 weeks later by the bomb disposal unit at 11:00am on a Wednesday morning. Much of the village in the vicinity of the bomb, including our family, evacuated for about a week to the Northern part of Caldecott in case the bomb went off. When the bomb was exploded, the village was set in confusion with some panic since there had been no warning that the bomb would be exploded at that time and it was thought that there was another air-raid.
