HMS KITE
A MEMORIAL TO A LOVED ONE.
I watched the sun in beauteous hue decline.
I saw it slowly sink below the distant line
Departing for the day else where to shine.
It left behind a blush upon each wave,
Which murmured as if weeping on a grave.
Where in tranquil slumber sleep the brave.
How sad to think , yet it is reality,
That our beloved in such a place should be.
Locked in that timeless bosom ,
Deep within the sea.
Perhaps within that dreadful watery tomb,
Where each has met an unexpected doom,
A prayer was said,
To banish deaths dark gloom.
Amidst our smiles,
When we are free from fears,
Death to us in majesty appears.
We sigh, we faint, behold we are in tears.
Tears that flow
For what our hearts retain.
And still in days to come,
Shall flow again.
Yet says the sacred song.
We shall meet in Heaven.
It will not be long.
In Memory of my young first love.
My husband.
Who was killed in action,
While serving with the Royal Navy,
During the 1939/45 war.
His ship The Kite, was torpedoed in Russian Waters.
Kate Joyce 2004.
