WW II itinerary of 14701281 (Wilkinson, Frank) — Part 3
(Continued from WW II itinerary of 14701281 (Wilkinson, Frank) — Part 2)
Into the Med’, now back in khaki and needed it. Sea fairly rough this time and for one period really rough and we pitched and rolled. Not many for meals but I managed it. I won’t describe the movement of the bulk food on its serving trays. Must look out for Gib’ this time. Went through in a mist which slowed navigation and hid the rock. Biscay rough but not bad, then normal progress to Liverpool. As we entered the Mersey there was a strong breeze and a wet mist. The marker buoys were almost horizontal. Leaving seemed to take a long time but eventually we were off and entrained for Fulford Barracks, York for pay and discharge papers, Naafi Rations and demob clothes. Sports jacket, flannel trousers, socks, shoes, trilby hat and raincoat. Sunday afternoon slow train to Normanton, to be met by my wife, 5 year old daughter and walking son. The pushchair took my kitbag, I think I carried my son and we contentedly walked home for good!
I can be moved to tears! At special times, I am so happy that it hurts!! This was such a time.
