We had our honeymoon here at the Adephi - 26th Dec.1942 after being married
at the Norwegian Seamens Church here in Liverpool.

The reason for this date was that my husband!s ship was not allowed to leave
Liverpool because he was in the Royal Norwegian Navy and had to be on
stanby. Hence the wedding day.
Memories of that special day were a chocolate wedding cake, and a ride on
the tram in full wedding dress, and of course our honeymoon at the Adelphi
for 3 magical days. A few days later the ship sailed for Canada.

In 1940 I was called up and had to work at Rootes Aircraft Factory out in
Speke, Liverpool. (I was at the time a window dresser at the Bon Marche, now
of course George Henry Lees).
I was a Progress Chaser i.e. chasing parts for the Lancaster bombers. What a change from fashion to planes, and how my world changed as did so
many other peoples.
We started at 7.00a.m. and finished at 6.00.p.m. They were long days
especially in the winter when the mornings were dark and we went home in the
dark.

This all took place during the Blitz in Liverpool. The raids were on every
night, and the family and the dog went down to the bottom of the garden to
the Adersson Shed, and stayed there till the all clear.

At the end of the war I was patriated with my daughter Sonja to meet my
husbands family in Oslo, Norway. The family met me and called me their
little English sister.

There are many memories for me, and I would like to thank you for todays
celebrations that we have had at the Adelphi.
